Recognition of prior learning (RPL), also known as skills recognition, is a formal assessment process used by Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) to issue vocational qualifications. This flexible, self-paced method will verify your career knowledge, skills and experience, without the need to complete complex, time consuming examinations, assignments or regular styles of assessment.
An RPL assessment can be used to gain vocational qualifications, starting from Certificate I, right through to Graduate Diploma at the post-graduate level. You must provide evidence to prove you have sufficient experience relating to the qualification level. As the qualification levels increase, you are required to provide more detailed evidence of your career expertise.
Units of Competency within Training Packages list in detail the key skills and knowledge requirements for the qualification, which can be matched to key duties and responsibilities you had in various jobs throughout your working life. Training Packages for each qualification provide detail of the types of jobs performed at each qualification level. They also list “employability skills” that must be demonstrated if applicants are to be considered competent.
